This August home checklist is exactly what you need to get ready for the chaos of the upcoming months. You don’t have to get everything done in a day, but over the next few weeks, chip away at the checklist. You will feel less stressed and more prepared to tackle the schedules. This post is all about an August Home Checklist.

August Home Checklist
Clean Out Backpacks/School Bags
Get ahead of back-to-school chaos. Wash those little germ-carrying bags, and see if your lunch boxes are okay too. After repeatedly washing our lunch bags, we needed some replacements.
Organize the Pantry
Check out the pantry. Check for any expired or stale items. Then, group like items before school lunches begin. Make sure you have your upcoming ingredients ready for the school year and that you have some easy items on hand for quick meals.
Wipe Down Light Switches & Doorknobs
Try to wipe those light switches and doorknobs down with disinfecting wipes.
Check Smoke/CO Detector Batteries
Test your smoke and CO detectors. The other night, the battery went in the smoke alarm in the kitchen. There’s nothing worse than that chirping sound.
Declutter the Car
Clean up the crumbs, and wipe down the car seats. Update your car with what you need for the fall. Yes, that might be those soccer chairs and a large umbrella or two.
Wash Summer Bedding
Wash the sheets, blankets, and mattress covers before swapping seasons.
Sort Mail/Paperwork
Clean up the paperwork pile on your counter and in your inbox. Those emails and letters are going to be coming in bulk, so don’t lose anything by sorting it now.
Clean out the Fridge Door Shelves
Condiments expire faster than you’d think, and you might need to get some new items that are running low.
Prep Entryway
Set up a spot for backpacks, keys, and shoes by the door. I just use bins for shoes and a little shelving rack for the girls’ bags.
Wipe Down Baseboards
You could use this method from a previous post or get a spin mop for easy cleaning too.

A Little Prep Now | Less Stress Later
Now that you have your list, check some items off.
