Okay, before you start this recipe, know that each cake ball doesn’t have to look perfect. Do not worry about them all being exactly even and perfectly formed. This will drive you absolutely crazy.
When I make these, I think that the less perfect they look, the more unique they are. Call that justification for not being the best cake ball maker, but it helps me to move on and go through the steps of this recipe quickly. The cake balls all end up looking and tasting great in the end. Somehow it just works out.
Also, another reason not to worry about them looking gorgeous is that they are going to be eaten so quickly, you won’t believe it. These little cake balls are just delicious. If you are a fan of red velvet, then this is going to be a great go-to. I love the combination of white chocolate and red velvet. In fact, I love these red velvet cookies too. The recipe is similar, but just in cookie form.
Enjoy making these little desserts. Make them for a get-together or as gifts. All will love them!

Step 1: Preheat Oven
To start this recipe, preheat the oven to 350°. You will need to use the oven to bake the cake. Other than that, you will just need the microwave later on to heat the chocolate coating.
Step 2: Start with a Cake Mix
Then, start this recipe with a red velvet cake mix. There are so many amazing recipes that just start with a cake mix. So start your day off by making the bed and then start your next recipe off with a cake mix.

Step 3: Add Dr. Pepper
Then, just add in 12 ounces of Diet Dr. Pepper.
Step 4: Mix
This recipe will fizz a little while mixing. The fact that this makes a delicious cake is unbelievable. It is so good, and you don’t add anything else to the mix.
You could just bake this cake and enjoy it without the additional steps as well.

Step 5: Spray Pan
Then, spray your baking pan. There’s nothing worse than when something gets stuck in an ungreased pan. You can use a 9×13 baking dish for this cake.
Step 6: Bake
Leave the cake in the oven for about twenty-six minutes and make sure that it doesn’t burn. This cake does bake quickly as it is only the two ingredients. What a recipe!

Step 7: Cool & Ice
Then wait until the cake cools, and ice it with whichever frosting you prefer. I used cream cheese frosting for this cake ball recipe. You could make your own or add in a different type. You could even swap it for chocolate icing.
Step 8: Mix
Then, mix that cake together in preparation to form the cake balls. Yes, you have just messed up your beautiful cake, but it will be worth it. I promise!

Step 9: Make Cake Balls & Refrigerate
Then, using a cookie scoop, form your cake balls and place them on parchment paper. Then, be sure to refrigerate these cake balls for at least two hours before the final touches.
Step 10: Dip in White Chocolate
Then, take them out of the fridge, and dip them into the white chocolate coating. For the coating, I used this simple coating from Good & Gather. It is delicious, and it heats up quickly.
I used this candy coating in this recipe too.
By the way, this recipe will make 28 cake balls.
Step 11: Cover in Chocolate
Then, if you want to make these sweet treats, really sweet, cover them in the white chocolate coating as well. Sometimes when you dip them, they don’t completely cover. This way, by taking a spoon or even a spatula, you can cover the entire cake ball with coating.
Instead of a ball, I should call them red velvet cake chocolate mounds. 🙂
Step 12: Add Sprinkles (Optional)
Then, right after you cover these cake balls with coating, be sure to sprinkle them. You can do this in whatever color you want. Right now, I did these cake balls in red for the holidays.
