Onion dip with Greek yogurt is so easy to make and quite the favorite for dip enthusiasts. This four ingredient quick and easy recipe is great when paired with crisp veggies or chips. This post is all about onion dip with Greek yogurt.
This dip recipe came to mind when I brought home fresh red onions from the local farmer’s market. I was thinking about various ways to make use of the onions without wasting the scallions. This recipe was a quick way to use both the onion and the scallions. It was the best way to reduce food waste too and create a savory dip for all to enjoy.
I paired mine with carrots and red peppers. I didn’t have chips on hand, but they would go great with this onion dip too.
This recipe may make you wonder can I use fat-free Greek yogurt instead of sour cream? Of course, this is possible. Plus, you are eliminating the extra fat in the dip by removing the normal go-to sour cream.
You can dip your heart out with this healthy alternative to your typical grocery store onion dip.

Onion Dip with Greek Yogurt
Step 1: Add Greek Yogurt
Start this recipe off by adding two cups of nonfat plain Greek yogurt to your mixing bowl. If you want to create this dip for a larger gathering, I would double the ingredients as you can never have too much dip.
Step 2: Add the Red Onion
Next, add in a 1/4 cup of diced red onion. I used fresh red onion from the local farmer’s market for this dip. There is nothing more delicious than fresh local produce. It may still make your eyes water, but it tastes so much better!
Step 3: Add the Scallions
Then, add a 1/3 cup of sliced scallions. So this is where the no waste comes into play. Use the scallions from the red onions, so that you can eliminate wasting those precious greens. They are a great addition to any meal and dip.
Step 4: Add the Garlic Powder
Then, add in a teaspoon of garlic powder. You could also use fresh garlic or minced garlic. I love garlic, but not everyone does, so you can always leave this ingredient out too.
Step 5: Mix It Up
Mix all the ingredients together and enjoy. You can chill the dip or just dig right in.
