During this time of the year, I love getting fresh apples from the farmer’s market. They are so good. A few times a season, I make this homemade applesauce, and every time I think I should get an electric peeler after I am done too. 🙂
If you have an apple peeler, you can really make this recipe in a timely fashion. There is just nothing like a little fresh applesauce in the fall. You could even top it off with a little whipped cream and caramel sauce too.

Homemade Applesauce Recipe
Jump to RecipeStep 1: Peel the Apples
First, peel at least four pounds of apples. Approximately three apples make a pound.
For this process I suggest an apple peeler to aid in the process. I have been eyeing up this electric one on Amazon.
Step 2: Add the Apples to Pot
Then, add the apples to a large pot on the stove.
Step 3: Add Water
You’ll want to add a cup of water to the pot.
Step 4: Add the Lemon Juice
Next, add in two tablespoons of lemon juice.
Step 5: The Vanilla
Then, add a teaspoon of vanilla.
Step 6: Add Butter
Then, add a tablespoon of butter. You can salted or unsalted butter for this recipe. I normally like to use salted butter for most of my recipes.
Step 7: Add Cinnamon
Then, add a teaspoon of cinnamon.
Step 8: Add Brown Sugar
Then, add in a half cup of brown sugar.
Step 9: Boil & Simmer
Allow this mixture to come to a boil, and then once that happens, let it simmer for about twenty minutes. The smell of the combination is so amazing.
Step 10: Add to Food Processor
Then, add the applesauce to the food processor. You can process these apples as you like. I like to have some chunks in my applesauce, but you can blend them to a puree as well.
Step 11: Enjoy Warm or Cold
Enjoy your applesauce warm or cold.

Ingredients
- 4 lbs Apples
- 1 Cup Water
- 2 tbsp Lemon Juice
- 1 tsp Vanilla
- 1 tsp Cinnamon
- 1 tbsp Butter
- 1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
Instructions
- First, peel the apples. Then, add in all of the ingredients to the large pot on the stove. Mix the ingredients. Let everything come to a boil. Then, let the mixture simmer for at least twenty minutes. Next, add the mixture to a food processor to blend the applesauce. You can serve it warm or cold.
