Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Start this recipe by preheating the oven to 350°.
Step 2: The Cake Mix
Add an entire box of vanilla cake mix. You could also use white cake mix. Either way, you are going to have one delicious cake to work with for your trifle.
Step 3: Add the Diet Ginger Ale
Use just one can of diet ginger ale. Pour it over the cake mix and watch it fizz. It smells great too!
Step 4: Mix It Up
Mix it all together. You could use a whisk or a wooden spoon. If you’d like to use your KitchenAid, it would definitely work well too.

Step 5: Spray Your Pan
Be sure to spray the baking pan with cooking spray so it doesn’t stick.
Step 6: Pour The Batter and Bake
Pour the batter evenly into the baking pan. Then, bake it for 28 minutes. Just check the cake as it bakes so that it doesn’t burn. Just use a toothpick to check it out. If the toothpick comes out clean, it is ready.
Step 7: Cool & Ice
Let the cake cool completely, and then ice it with cream cheese frosting. I just love the taste of cream cheese frosting, but really any icing will work.
Step 8: Smash That Cake
Yes, smash and swirl it around, and mix it up. This, my friends, is going to be the gooey sweet layer of goodness that goes between the berries.
Step 9: Grab That Trifle Bowl
Step 10: Add 2 Cups of Strawberries
Add in two cups of strawberries to the bottom of the trifle bowl.
Step 11: Apply the Batter Layer
After you add the strawberries, then add in a layer of the cake that you mixed earlier in Step 8. This is going to be the sweet layer that goes between the berry freshness.
Step 12: Add the Blueberries to Fresh Berry Trifle
Next, add a layer of two cups of blueberries.
Step 13: Add Another Layer of Cake & 2 Cups Strawberries
Then, cover the blueberries in a layer of the cake. Plus, add another two cups of strawberries.
Step 14: Cover the Strawberries
Cover the berries with the last layer of the cake.
Step 15: Cover Fresh Berry Trifle with Fresh Berries
Mix blueberries and strawberries on top to complete the look. Use about a cup of each to top it all off.
