These DIY wax melts smell amazing and make great gifts too. The process is simple, and you can easily double or triple the ingredients to make several wax melts at one time. You would just have to have more molds to do so. This post is all about DIY wax melts.
Enjoy your favorite scents easily with these quick steps. You can make wax melts at home with just a few ingredients and your favorite essential oils. Not only are they fun to make, but it is a budget-friendly project too as now you won’t have to keep buying them from the stores.
All will appreciate your DIY gift, and they’ll love how amazing these little candles smell. You can mix and match any scent combinations that you like. For this batch, I used cranberry and vanilla. It smells like this recipe, actually. 🙂

DIY Wax Melts
Step 1: Gather Your Materials
For the process, you’ll need coconut oil, beeswax, essential oils, and molds. Depending on the event, you can use molds that fit the season, or just grab a basic small square mold too.
Most of the ingredients can be found on Amazon. You can grab whatever brand of coconut oil you’d like to use. I just grabbed the Aldi brand, but I also have used the Good and Gather one at Target too.
Step 2: Add Coconut Oil
In a mixing bowl, add a 1/3 cup of coconut oil. Always be sure to store your coconut oil at room temperature. I have made the mistake of putting it in the fridge, and it ends up hard as a rock.
Step 3: The Beeswax
Then, add 2 tablespoons of beeswax.
Step 4: The Essential Oils
You can add in your favorite essential oils next. I used 20 drops of each of these scents. The cranberry vanilla combo is great for the holiday season, but I also love just plain vanilla. If I use one scent, I normally just had 30 drops. I find that if you don’t use enough of the essential oils, the wax melts won’t be that strong.
Step 5: The Double Boiler
Once you have the ingredients into the bowl, put the bowl over a pot of boiling water. The beeswax takes the longest to mix and melt. I’d say that it will take about ten minutes with frequent whisking to melt the ingredients together completely.
Step 6: Pour into Molds
Then, pour the melted mixture into the molds. I let the mold set out for a day, and then, I put them in glass or plastic containers to store them.
Step 7: Make into Gifts or Just Enjoy in Warmer
Depending on the size of your molds, you can add one or two to the warmer. Also, if you are interested in gifting these, you can use these little jars and some ribbon. You can fit 4-6 pieces into each jar. If you do multiple scents as gifts, then these little jars are great for mixing and matching.
Is It Cheaper to Make Your Own Wax Melt?
Yes, by the time you go out and purchase wax melts, you typically just get 6-8 in a box, and it is normally around $5 for a good brand. If you purchase budget-friendly items for the DIY melts, you will most certainly save money, and get the scents you really want.
A Sweet Gift without the Calories
Now that you have your melts, enjoy the sweet smells.
