Use this cleaning slime recipe to clean all the places you can’t quite get to that are dirty. It is fun to use and super easy to make. You can make this cleaning product with a few simple items you probably have around the house. Your kids will love it, and it actually works to clean too. This post is all about a cleaning slime recipe.
After so many attempts to get the right recipe for this cleaning slime, this one is finally just right. I tried several different combinations, and a lot of them were too watery, didn’t smell great, and left a residue on everything.
Finally, after so many failed attempts, this combo seems to be the perfect consistency and it smells great too.
I wanted the slime to be easy to make, easy to use, and to smell good too.
Plus, I wanted to make sure that my kids could play with it as well. This recipe seems to be the best combo, and it works as a cleaning product and a toy too.
When you are stuck inside in the winter, these are the things you do with your time. 🙂

Cleaning Slime Recipe
You may wonder why with so many great cleaning products on the market, why make a cleaning slime recipe? I get that.
It seems a little excessive, but my daughters play with play-doh and foam all the time. I just thought why not make something that we adults can let them play with that doesn’t require a major clean-up.
This recipe does just that and more. This way they can have fun playing with this slime, yet it can also be used to clean those hard-to-reach areas too.
Step 1: Gather Materials
For this recipe, you will need white glue, baking soda, contact solution, and Dawn dish soap.
Be sure to stick with white glue as others are made of different ingredients and may not give you the right consistency for this cleaning product.
For the contact solution, I just used the Up and Up brand from Target, but if you have something else on hand that works as well.
Step 2: Start with the Glue
To start the recipe, use a four-ounce container of white glue. You don’t have to go crazy getting every last drop out, but try your best to empty the container.
By the way, I tried this recipe with the glow-in-the-dark glue I had from Halloween, and it didn’t work. It may not have worked because it was already opened or because of the different ingredients. I have no idea which factor messed up the recipe but just stick to the white glue for this slime.
Step 3: Add the Baking Soda
Then, add a tablespoon of baking soda.

Baking soda is a great cleaner that is super cheap. For other cheap cleaning products, check out this post too.
Step 4: Add the Contact Solution
Next, add in a tablespoon of contact solution. Contact solution does have antimicrobial properties which definitely helps with disinfecting the areas you are going to clean. Plus, this keeps the slime cleaner longer, which is great for when you have your kids play with it and then use it to clean.
Step 5: Add Dawn
Then, add in a tablespoon of Dawn dish soap.
I knew that I wanted the slime to have another antibacterial ingredient and this is a great go-to that I use on a daily basis.
Plus, the apple scent smells amazing!
For more ways to use Dawn, check out this Dawn Powerwash post too.
Step 6: Stir
Then, keep stirring, and you will get to the slime soon. Eventually, it will just come right out of the dish and form a slime consistency.
The beauty of this particular combo is that it doesn’t make for a watery substance and it doesn’t leave a residue either.
With the other options I tried out, I was running into the problem of the slime leaving a baking soda residue, but this combo cleans nicely.
How to Use Cleaning Slime Recipe
Use your cleaning slime for all of those hard-to-reach areas where crumbs and dirt get stuck.
For this example below, I used my sliding door in my dining room out to the deck. Dirt just gets stuck between the doors, and it is so difficult to clean that area.
For this process, just stick the slime into the area, wiggle it around, and then remove it. You won’t believe the dirt that comes out. It is rather gross!
You could use this slime to clean in between dining room chairs and high chair areas. Also, you could use this slime to clean between cracks around your windows, appliances, doors, railings, and so much more.
I used it to clean between my cabinets and stove, which was rather disgusting. Also, I used it to clean under the edges of my kitchen cabinets, and I was shocked at the dirt and dust that was up there in those little areas. You’ll be amazed at what ends up sticking to the slime. It is crazy!
Sometimes a cleaning cloth just isn’t enough to get those difficult areas of dirt. That’s why this cleaning slime is so handy and such a necessity to have in your cleaning product repertoire.
You can use this slime over and over until it gets too gross. Then, just make another batch for more cleaning fun.
To store it between uses, use a glass container or a ball glass jar.
