When sick, I just try my best to keep my head above water, and at times, that can be a real struggle. Just like all moms out there, when I am sick, my kids still need to be cared for and my job still needs to be done. These are tasks that no matter how I feel will never end. Clean House After Sickness
How do I clean my house after being sick? How do you get germs out of your house? Where do I start when cleaning? If these are some of your questions, don’t worry, these tips will work for you. Take care and stress less as you go through these cleaning steps.
Tip 1: Deep Clean the Bathroom
Using Clorox wipes and bleach spray, deep clean the bathroom first. Starting with the sink, spray the sink with a bleach spray, and wipe down the countertops with disinfecting wipes. Also, you can use this Windex disinfecting spray to not only clean your mirror, but to remove the germs as well. It really does work well on glass.
Then, scrub your shower with a bleach cleaner. I like to use this Comet cleanser and a sponge when cleaning the tub after illness. Then, I let it sit and spray it all off for a deep clean.
The Pine Sol daily shower cleaner smells great and maintains your shower, too. You can just spray it after each shower. The scent alone makes you feel better about the cleanliness of your bathroom.
Tip 2: Wash Bedding and Clothing in Hot Water
Once you have the bathroom cleaned, move onto the bedding and dirty clothes. Run these through the hot water cycle while you clean the rest of your home.
Washing your bedding and clothes in hot water is going to ensure that all germs are removed. There is nothing better than crawling into a clean bed once you are well. Plus, you can clean your jammies and loungewear in hot water too. Of course, if they are red, be sure to wash them separately.
According to an article from The New York Times, Dr. Sowa recommended she would err on the side of caution when it came to washing certain items, like dish towels, the clothes of family members with infections and hospital scrubs, by using water heated to 140 degrees.

Then, using disinfecting wipes and a multi-surface disinfectant spray, clean all high touch surfaces. You can use the following printable to guide your way to disinfect these high touch areas.
Plus, don’t forget to wipe down your screens, remotes, and keyboards too. These are probably the most forgotten high touch surfaces. Just the thought of the germs on my phone grosses me out!
This multi-surface disinfectant spray is great for furniture and throw pillows too. I love the smell of Tide, and this antibacterial spray smells so clean and fresh.

Tip 4: Mop Floors with Pine Sol
Then, to ensure that your home is really really clean, mop your floors with a little Pine Sol.
According to Pine Sol’s site, it disinfects and kills 99.9% of germs. As a Pine Sol fan, I really do believe that it works, and it disinfects your home. It is also great on most surfaces, which makes it an easy choice when cleaning.
I just put a little of the cleaner in my Bissell mop to ensure clean floors and a disinfected home. I love this Bissell Spinwave mop too!
Your home will smell amazing after you mop with Pine Sol. I just love that smell!
Tip 5: Let the Fresh Air In
Finally, once you have disinfected everything, let the fresh air in and open your windows.
Plus, opening the windows after cleaning helps you get rid of all those cleaning chemicals, too.
