Walkways, Driveway, & Car
With these particular spots being the hardest to maintain, these solutions might just help you save time and energy this winter season.
1. Salt Bin, Shovel, & Scraper
Gather all items for the outside prior to that first accumulation. If you get this part organized, you will be less overwhelmed by the snowy problems.
Prepare for the snow with an easy way to salt your walkways and driveway.
Have a shovel that will work with you and not against you.
Place this in an easy to find spot either on your front porch or in the garage.
Another easy solution for quick salting is to use a wheeled lawn cart to store your salt.
Of course, you need to clean off you car as well. This particular scraper is highly rater and for good reason.
It adjusts, it scrapes, it removes snow, and it does it all without scratching your car. This simple invention will not only help you but would also be a great gift idea too.
The Entryways of Your Home
With the in and out traffic, it is easy to get overwhelmed with keeping up with your floors and trying to maintain the rugs you may have just purchased.
Eliminate these concerns with these items.
2. Textured Door Mat and Shoe Bin
To ensure that shoes are completely wiped off, put out this textured doormat. The groves in this mat will help to eliminate the dirt from the bottoms of your shoes.
To lessen these floor issues, you can select a bin for shoe storage. This will help alleviate some of the craziness of getting out the door with your shoes right there and ready to go.
Depending on your level of love for winter, this shoe bin and scrub brush combo feature is absolutely wonderful for those who are all about the outdoors.
For those who just want a simple shoe solution, this bin will do the trick.
Either option will prevent the snow, the salt, and the dirt from hitting your floors and ruining your rugs.
3. Under the Door Draft Stopper
There are two options for a draft stopper that are extremely popular purchases.
First, there is the weatherstrip type of stopper, which is highly recommended. This just adds a bottom stripping to your door. There are a few color options depending on your preference.
The other type of draft stopper is more like a foam pillow or padding for the bottom of your door. It is a much more stylish way to stop the cold air as opposed to a towel or a blanket.
4. Storage Ideas for Gloves, Hats, and Scarves
With these convenient storage centers, your gloves, hats, and scarves will have a spot right next to the door, the hall closet, or the garage.
Some of these options are from my favorite store – World Market. I no longer live next to a World Market, but oh how I miss it!
The Plumbing & Heating
These are major areas of your home that sometimes go unnoticed until a disaster strikes.
With these systems in place, you will perhaps go without any major problems this winter and any panicked phone calls to your local HVAC company.
5. Water Leak Sensors and System
So after having a pipe freeze and burst, I definitely depend on a water leak sensor. The Flo by Moen alarms and the system are highly ranked and really everything by Moen is always dependable.
Having these alarms in place will definitly keep your mind at ease.
Other ways to prevent these disasters are to leave your faucets on a drip so that you can avoid frozen pipes.
Also, one quick kitchen sink tip or any sink really. If your sink is against an outside wall, leave the cabinets underneath of that area open as much as possible so that they are getting some of that inside heat.
At night, I always leave these cabinets open to make sure that the pipes are not freezing.
You may call me overly cautious, but these tips do work and I get more sleep knowing at least I have tried my best to prevent a frozen pipe.
